Back pain & violinist explains why people quit subscription offers
Date: September 2, 2024
Lemme explain.
Recently, I cancelled my membership to a fitness app. When I clicked, “Cancel Subscription”, I got the usual dropdown:
“Mr. Harrison, please tell us why you’re leaving:
a) I no longer need it.
b) I’m using another service.
c) It’s too expensive.
d) It didn’t work correctly.
e) blah blah blah blah…
What I find funny?
The real answer – “Your botched attempt at marketing” – is never on the menu.
See, if someone quits your subscription product, it’s unlikely it was too expensive, or they wanted to switch to a competitor. Instead, it’s for a very simple reason:
The problem they wanted to fix by buying your subscription isn’t staring them in the face any more.
For example, take the fitness app, which solves back pain.
Why did I quit?
Simple.
I didn’t have any back pain.
Thus, I no longer had a “vision” of why paying for their app could help me.
What they should’ve done?
Written me an email saying something like this:
==
Jascha Heifetz (one of the greatest violinist’s of all time) once said that if he took a day off practice, he’d notice. If he took 2 days off, his wife would notice. And if he took a week off, his fans would notice.
His point?
That nothing ever stays the same.
You’re either getting better, OR you’re getting worse.
Your back?
Works the exact same way.
A lot of our clients use our app, do the workouts, get a super strong back w/ awesome posture, and within a couple of weeks, their back pain’s gone. “Great,” they think. “Problem solved.”
Then what happens?
Well…
They stop doing the workouts.
Then they slip back into old postural habits, their back muscles weaken, and when they go to lift something heavy – SNAP! -- there goes their back again.
So, if you want a pain-free back for life?
My advice:
Commit to 5 minutes of training with our app a day, and take weekends off.
I.e
Build your back over years…
Not days.
Speaking of which...
